PLAYWRITING WORKSHOPS

Available in your classroom for the entire 2021-2022 school year!

Florida Studio Theatre’s WRITE A PLAY program has been bringing quality arts-integration into classrooms for over 30 years!

Using proven theatrical methodology, FST teaching artists will guide students to write plays of their own focusing on the 4 elements of a play: Characters, Setting, Problem, and Dialogue. These workshops can be combined with our WRITE A PLAY performances, or offered independently.

Designed to integrate language arts and theatre standards, the workshops use innovative techniques to get your students excited about writing! Over a series of workshops students will learn about the elements of a play, and write and develop plays of their very own. Every student is encouraged to submit their plays to FST’s Young Playwright’s Festival our annual celebration of young playwright’s and educators.

Thanks to a generous partnership with The Sarasota Community Foundation, FST will offer this exploration at no charge to Sarasota County Schools in the 21-22 Schools

• 1 Day at Your School – ($495)
  • An introduction to playwriting
  • Florida Studio Theatre teaching artists in your classroom for one school day (up to 8 workshops)
  • Students will learn the fundamentals of playwriting, work together on a class play, and get started on their own plays.
• 3 Days at Your School – ($999)
  • An exploration into playwriting
  • Florida Studio Theatre teaching artists in your classroom for three school days (up to 24 workshops)
  • Students will learn the fundamentals of playwriting, work together on a class play, and write first drafts of their own plays.
• 5 Days at Your School – ($1499)
  • A deep dive into playwriting 
  • Florida Studio Theatre teaching artists in your classroom for five school days (up to 40 workshops)
  • Students will learn the fundamentals of playwriting, work together on a class play, write first drafts of their plays, and edit/revise their plays with peer feedback.
