Florida Studio Theatre

Florida Studio Theatre

We are proud to present the 30th year of the WRITE A PLAY program entirely VIRTUAL for the 2020-2021 school year. This virtual program will be offered at NO COST to schools through a partnership with The Community Foundation of Sarasota and generous gifts from Florida Studio Theatre’s supporters.

Elementary students can participate by seeing a streaming performance of a play, taking part in the live interactive zoom experience of Playmaker’s Zoom Into Playwriting, writing plays of their own, and seeing a streaming performance of the winning plays in Spring 2021.

Middle and High School students can participate by learning from a professional teaching artist through our virtual Playwriting Workshops. This year in a special partnership with Embracing Our Differences we are also offering a writing workshop combined with their visual art exhibit as a “Make a Day of It” partner. For more information on that opportunity visit Embracing Our Differences website here.

All Students are encouraged to submit their work to FST’s Young Playwrights Festival, which celebrates those students and their teachers, whose plays show a strong understanding for the theatrical process involved in writing a play and reveal a budding creative talent that deserves congratulations!

Florida Studio Theatre's 2021-2022 WRITE A PLAY Playmaker's Tour

Program description

The Playmakers Tour: The Write Stuff

The Playmakers Tour: The Write Stuff  is the play that inspires writing! The show is available to tour to your school in January and February 2022!

This show inspires your students to write their own plays and participate in our 2022 Young Playwrights Festival.  A team of professional actors from FST will perform at least 2 award-winning plays written by youth, and then they will use improvisation and participatory learning as tools to inspire writing.

In addition to up to 3 performances of the show, our teaching artists are available to do in-class playwriting workshops to further work with students on writing plays of their own!

Join Florida Studio Theatre in inspiring student to write fantastic plays!

Educator Reviews:

“I’m so glad that you come here. Children these days just don’t have imagination anymore. But you guys coming in here and teaching them how to write stories… it shows them how to use their imagination again.” – 1st Grade, Gulf Gate Elementary

“Thank you so, so much for coming to our school today! The students had such a wonderful time and were SO excited to write their own plays this afternoon. I already have several they want to be submitted and many students told me they would be writing some plays over the holiday break as well.”– 1st Grade, Moody Elementary

“Thank you for continuing to provide meaningful learning experiences for our students through the arts!  You are a part of my curriculum no matter what grade I teach.  You have inspired my students every single year.” –1st Grade, Phillippi Shores Elementary
