The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature

The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature

Located on downtown Bradenton’s waterfront, The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature is the largest natural history museum on Florida’s Gulf Coast. The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature offers engaging exhibits as well as educational programs which interpret the scientific and cultural knowledge of Florida, the world, and our universe. In addition to  the permanent exhibits, The Bishop features a constantly changing lineup of temporary exhibitions – offering something new to discover with each visit, featuring fossil evidence of Florida’s earliest animal inhabitants and archaeological materials representing Paleo-Indian, Archaic, and pre-contact cultures, as well as local history and creative exhibitions. The Museum also features an all-digital Planetarium and the Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat. At The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature, you can learn about the world around you – land, sky, and sea – through the lens of Florida’s natural sciences.

We are proud to offer schools a variety off-site and in-person educational experiences. Learn more about each option below in the Explorations section.

After school and during select school breaks, The Bishop has several public programs to expand science learning for all ages! Check out Science Camps, IQuest, Teen Nights, Science Sprouts, Tales Under the Tree, and more at our website.

Student Field Trips at The Bishop, Grades K-5

Program description

Student Field Trips at The Bishop engage students in interactive learning with our collection and the world-at-large. Your school’s curriculum comes to life as students discover, question, and explore!

Student Field Trips are two-hour guided experiences featuring The Bishop’s most popular exhibitions, a visit to the Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat, and one Planetarium show. The exhibitions highlighted and the information given are tailored to the age of your students, from Pre-K to college, and follow the themes of Florida Plants and Animals, Florida’s First Peoples, and Florida Natural History. Field trips for Pre-K to 1st graders may include the Mosaic Backyard Universe interactive children’s exhibit.

  • Student Field Trips are offered Tuesday-Friday from 9:45am – noon.
  • Groups have the option to bring lunch to The Bishop, extending their field trip by 30 minutes.
  • Field Trips must be reserved at least one month in advance. We recommend booking as early as possible, as space is limited.
  • Field Trips are limited to groups of 15 to 100 students. Groups larger than 100 students will need to book multiple dates.
  • One teacher or chaperone is required for every 10 students and will be admitted at no additional charge.
    • Chaperones must be over the age of 18.
    • Additional adults will be charged at the chaperone rate.
    • All adults attending with groups are expected to stay with their group for the duration of the program.
  • Field Trips are not designed to be a comprehensive tour of the entire Museum due to time limitations.
  • Field Trips build upon big ideas and benchmarks from the Florida Sunshine State Standards.
