The Riverview Planetarium and its programming present a one-of-a-kind learning experience that allows educators to present information and educate children (and adults) in a very unique way. It is an immersive 360 degree dome theater, and anything that can be done on computer can be created in the planetarium. The new facility is a multimedia “Immersion Theater” capable of not only providing state-of-the-art science instruction, but also a variety of functions usable by schools and the community. Today, the new frontiers of human exploration lie far beyond the earth, extend through our solar system, across interstellar space, and reach out to galaxies billions of light years away. We can now still virtually experience adventures in this realm. Unlike a hundred years ago, however, we can now simulate these distant environments and let people see what it’s really like to be there. Modern planetariums can be simulated space ships, staffed with knowledgeable tour guides so that the ordinary citizen can explore the wonders of the universe (International Planetarium Society).
