Laura Courter has been a Teaching Artist for 25 years. Her degrees in Theatre Arts and English Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill have led her into developing innovative children’s educational programming and curriculum design throughout her career. Laura has received Teaching Artist training through the Kennedy Center, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, Arts and Science Council of Charlotte in the Art Start program, the South Carolina Arts Commission and Fulton County Arts Council in Atlanta. Since moving to Sarasota, Laura is the Education Coordinator for Players Theatre, a Teaching Artist with the Ed Explore program sponsored by the Arts and Cultural Alliance and the Sarasota County Schools. She is a Van Wezel and an Orlando Repertory Teaching Artist. She has taught classes for Venice Theatre and worked as a Visiting Artist in the Lee County School System.

The Write Stuff writing residency introduces the five elements of effective writing: Focus, Organization, Elaboration & Support, Style and Conventions are taught through a 5 day, classroom residency. Each day a Creative Drama activity is taught to support the writing the students will do that day. Fun games and activities keep the students enthusiastic for the writing portions.
Laura Courter, teaching artists, with 25 years experience in curriculum development and arts integration will have your students performing with Creative Drama activities and enthusiastically writing their ideas down to develop their paper.
The Write Stuff relates to the curriculum in the following ways: 1) it teaches the use of transition words and phrases; 2 )it demonstrates three methods of organizing an evaluative essay; 3) it teaches students how to organize and write critical paragraphs; 4) it demonstrates correct uses of explanations and definitions; 5) it teaches students how to draw concepts and ideas from other subjects; 6)It uses culture and environment as inspiration for creating art; 7) it uses real and imaginary subject matter in works of art.
The Write Stuff can also be adapted for remedial sessions particularly for those students who are almost in reach of a passing writing assessment score. The Write Stuff is appropriate for 5th-8th grade students.

$500 for 1 week classroom residency(one class) Classroom visits: 1 classroom daily rate $150/2 classrooms $250. One hour workshops available $150 per classroom. This includes meeting with the teacher before the residency, and all materials and handouts for the students.
