Bringing the Words to Life

Program description

This residency, with teaching artist Laura Courter, is a school-wide theatrical event where your students write a play about a theme of your choosing. With the guidance your young authors will create the content for your schools big production. This is a two week residency for grade levels 2-5, the first week is the “writing week”.  This includes story creation, poetry, dance and music.  All of the original material is collected and a script will be developed into a theatrical presentation.  The second week the Laura returns for production week to direct, choreograph, build the props and rehearse your show.  The week ends in an unforgettable school event.  Great for PTA meetings!  Laura will meet with the grade level teachers to decide the theme.  Those themes could include Folk Tales, Fairy Tales or topics developed around Seminole Native Americans, Heroes, International, Ecology, the Environment, or an aspect of Florida or world history.
