Art Center Sarasota offers a variety of educational programing for all ages. Along with our adult art education classes and workshops, we offer a wide range of youth programs for schools, organizations, clubs, and individuals.
Virtual Programing:
Connecting Art and the Solar System is an exploration for 3rd grade science classes studying the solar system. This is a S.T.E.A.M. based exploration lead by Art Center staff educators, Elizabeth Goodwill and Barbara Gerdeman over Zoom. Teachers will be given handouts and art supplies for the students ahead of time. All art materials are individually bagged so each student has their own supplies. This exploration is two class periods long. Usually on back to back days. This exploration is grant funded. Due to this we will only have one free tour per school, cost to students will be $7 per student after the free tour. We are happy to teach this for multiple teachers at a school or a whole grade level, but teachers/school will need to get supportive funding. This program is inspired by Teaching Artist Pam Sumner.
Watch the Connecting Art and the Solar System Video with Dr. Asplen and Ms. Hoermann’s class at Ashton Elementary.
Off Campus Field Trips:
The Slice of Art program at Art Center Sarasota provides fun and educational art experiences for students and adults through exciting guided tours of Art Center Sarasota’s changing exhibitions and hands-on art making activities. Slice of Art tours for students in grades 3-12 are age appropriate and designed to capture the student’s imagination. The tours include connections to science, social studies, and other subject areas. The Center’s Youth Programs Coordinator works with teachers to develop curriculum connections and leads discussions in the galleries relevant to issues in student’s lives. After the gallery tour, students enjoy a pizza lunch and refreshments followed by a forty-five minute art-making workshop using high quality artist’s materials. This Program is on Hold Until September 2021.
Summer Art Camps
During the summer break months Art Center Sarasota dedicates its education facilities to the Youth Summer Art Camps. There are two camps that occur during the summer. Creative Kids (ages 6-10) and Emerging Artists (ages 11-15) are week long, full day art camps that run from June 14 – Aug 6 2021. These are art focused camps for youth ages 6-10 and preteens/teens ages 11-15. Before and after-care available. Teens ages 15 and older can volunteer as teaching assistants for community service hours for scholarships, Bright Futures, and scholastic based community service hours. Youth scholarships are available for summer camp.
