About EdExplore

EdExploreSRQ is a web-based search platform that is transforming the way Sarasota County teachers, principals and parents identify and learn about experiential learning opportunities available in our area. Featuring hundreds of offerings by local non-profits and individual teaching artists, each EdExploreSRQ “exploration” is reviewed and approved by school district staff to ensure connections to educational standards.

Through EdExploreSRQ, educators at all grade levels not only expand and enrich their classrooms, they also increase student awareness and access to our community’s wonderful arts, cultural and scientific resources. Whether simply sparking a new area of interest or even shaping a future career path, the result can be a life changing experience for young learners.

Although initially designed as an educational tool for use by teachers and principals, EdExploreSRQ is also a valuable resource for parents seeking to identify unique learning experiences outside the classroom for their children.

Our Story

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County is extremely privileged to partner with The Patterson Foundation to ensure these marvelous experiential learning opportunities based on the assets we have here in culture, the arts, and the environment.

EdExploreSRQ is a wonderful resource for teachers to use to assist with making academic progress… When I write a grant for one of the sponsored programs from EdExploreSRQ, I know I will be providing above and beyond hands-on learning experiences for my students that are meaningful.

Myths and Legends Virtual Tour

Greek and Roman myths have inspired artists and authors for thousands of years. This tour, brought to you by The Ringling, discusses 3-6 artworks from The Ringling’s collections that portray images inspired by classical mythology. Students familiar with Greek and Roman myths will find connections in popular deities such as Aphrodite, Hercules and Perseus, while lesser known themes such as bacchanals, mischievous satyrs, and the tale of the Narcissus are sure to delight and surprise. After learning about gods and goddesses, conflicts and triumphs, students will create their own Greek deity in a guided art making session.
